Atomic Approach
Atoms are the smallest and simplest components in our design system. Think of them as the building blocks like icons, buttons, and avatars.

They serve as the foundation upon which more complex components are built, making the entire system modular and easy to manage.

Molecule
Molecules are simple components made by combining atoms. Like with atoms, I designed every possible state and scenario for molecules to cover user interactions.

The design system then served as a go-to resource for developers to understand how to implement components based on different user actions.


Organisms
Organisms are the most complex components in the design system. They are made up of groups of molecules and atoms, combining to form complete sections of the user interface, like a navigation bar or a product card, which can be reused throughout the product for consistency and functionality.

Background-----
The app was designed to let users monitor and adjust up to 32 pool or spa features through the ICD pool control system, However, for many customers, navigating those capabilities was anything but relaxing. MVP flows felt overly technical and lengthy making the experience frustrating rather than helpful.

Even tech-savvy users ran into friction, with flows that required more steps than necessary and didn’t feel intuitive. As a result, completion rates dropped, and complaints went up. The promise of control and convenience was there, but the path to it wasn’t smooth.

So, how could we turn the Fluidra Pool app into something customers actually enjoyed using something that made managing their pool feel as seamless as swimming in it?

UX Approach

Refined the Pool Automation experience by addressing key user challenges through a structured UX process - driven by real user feedback, behavioral insights, and iterative design.

Challenges & Soultions

While working on the Fluidra Pool app, I identified three critical MVP flows where users struggled to complete key tasks. Each challenge required thoughtful UX solutions to simplify pool automation and present it in a way that felt intuitive, without overwhelming users with technical language.

Basic Schedule

Take full control of your pool or spa with the Basic Schedule feature. Easily set up to 32 water features to run exactly when you want by time, day, or custom scene. Whether it’s a relaxing spa evening or a lively pool party, you can create the perfect atmosphere with just a few taps. Best of all, you can manage everything from anywhere in the world.

Challenge:
Setting up a schedule felt like a long, tedious process, especially when trying to manage multiple water features. There’s no clear distinction between individual features and scenes, which made it hard to understand what I was actually scheduling. And if I made a mistake or wanted to make a quick change, editing the schedule wasn’t straightforward, it felt like I had to start over.

Solution:
- Goal-Based Flows: Redesigned the scheduling experience around user goals (e.g., “Relaxing Evening,” “Morning Routine”) instead of technical settings to better align with mental models.

- Visual & Intuitive UI: Introduced a clean, icon-driven interface with plain language to make complex pool functions easy to understand at a glance.

- Modular Scheduling Steps: Broke the process into clear, editable steps, allowing users to review and update individual parts without having to restart the entire schedule.

Scenes

Scenes let you group your favorite water features and save them as a custom experience, so with just one tap, you can activate your perfect setup. Whether it’s a “Party Mode” with all features on or a relaxing evening scene, Scenes make it easy to recreate the moment anytime, instantly.

Challenge:
Users often experience confusion between Schedules and Scenes, struggling to understand when to use each. While Scenes offer personalized control over grouped water features, users lacked the ability to automate them at specific times, limiting their practical use. Additionally, accessing Scenes quickly wasn't intuitive, making it harder to activate preferred setups on the fly. Users expressed a clear need for more personalized, time-based automation and faster access to their custom Scenes.

Solution :
- Onboarding UX Copy: Added clear, concise guidance on first use to explain the Scenes feature and differentiate it from Schedules, reducing user confusion.

- Visual Icons & Default Names: Introduced icons and preset scene names to help users quickly create and identify grouped water features with ease.

- Smart Automation: Implemented feature-toggle scheduling, allowing Scenes to activate automatically at user-preferred times for seamless control.

- Add to Favorites: Proposed a system to pin frequently used Scenes, Schedules, or features on the main dashboard, enabling quick, personalized access.

I joined Fluidra, a global leader in pool and wellness automation in 2023, where the company specializes in innovative IoT-enabled products, operating in over 45 countries. After taking UX ownership of the consumer-facing app, I was entrusted with leading the creation of a scalable design system to support design teams distributed across USA, India, Spain, and Colombia. This role enabled me to establish design standards and unify user experiences across Fluidra’s international product lines.

Problem Statement

Fluidra's connected pool platform spanned four surfaces: mobile, desktop, and an outdoor LCD, each built independently with no shared design language, making a powerful product feel like four disconnected tools.

02 Respect Mental Model

Users naturally rely on familiar patterns. By designing navigation with clear entry points and predictable flows, the experience became more intuitive, helping users move through the app with less effort and confusion.
